The sigil for the toloache is one in a series of Datura related plant sigils. It is an abstract vision of the lush flowering Mexican thornapple (Datura innoxia), which is sometimes also called Moonflower. Datura innoxia is the native species of thornapple featured in Mexican witchcraft (brujería) and shamanism. In the sigil I summarize personal observations and experiences from working with the plant in meditation and ritual. The sigil is also inspired by psychedelic Mexican quilt patterns and forms a gate through which the spirit of the plant may be contacted. It was one of the first plant spirits I came in contact with in my art and it triggered the series that later developed into my “Sigilla Magica Plantarum”. Since a few years I am growing Toloache in my garden and every year it blesses us with its fragrant flowers that open at night.
You can now purchase an original ensouled paper talisman of the sigil. The sigil is drawn with black India ink on coffee stained paper, which has been infused with the sap from the leaves, flowers and fruit of Mexican thorn apple from my garden and wormwood tincture. Each paper sigil is signed and dated on the back.
